Devon County Council’s Legal Services team provides expert support in managing legal disputes and enforcing statutory responsibilities across a wide range of areas. The litigation and planning team handles a range of civil and criminal matters, including planning, judicial reviews, unauthorised encampments, contractual disputes, property claims, highways issues, and regulatory prosecutions in the Magistrates and Crown Courts. They represent the Council in courts and tribunals, ensuring that decisions are legally robust and compliant with national legislation.
This work often involves complex dispute resolution, safeguarding cases, and education-related claims, requiring a proactive approach to risk management. By working closely with internal departments, the team delivers practical legal advice and advocacy that protects public resources and supports the Council’s ability to deliver essential services effectively.
