Do it for fairness in every decision
Devon County Council’s Legal Services team provides expert advice and representation on all aspects of employment law to ensure the Council meets its obligations as an employer and maintains fair, lawful workplace practices. This includes advising on recruitment, contracts of employment, disciplinary and grievance procedures, redundancy, restructuring, and compliance with equality and discrimination legislation.
The team works closely with HR and management to resolve employment disputes, manage Employment Tribunal claims, and develop policies that reflect best practice and statutory requirements. They also provide guidance on complex issues such as TUPE transfers, flexible working arrangements, and safeguarding obligations within the workforce.
By delivering clear, practical legal advice, the Employment Law team helps the Council maintain a positive working environment, reduce legal risks, and ensure that staff are treated fairly and consistently. Their role is essential in supporting organisational change and protecting the Council’s reputation as a responsible employer.
