MPA in Senior Leadership and Public Administration (Level 7).
How has the apprenticeship helped you grow personally and professionally?
The apprenticeship has honestly been a game-changer for me. It’s helped me see strategic leadership from a much broader perspective, it’s not just about leading a team, but about setting a vision, making decisions that drive positive change, and finding ways to bring people together around a common goal.
What skills have you developed so far?
Throughout my apprenticeship, I’ve developed a range of invaluable personal skills. I’ve become more organised in managing both my workload and study commitments. Additionally, I’ve gained a deeper sense of self-awareness, allowing me to reflect on my strengths and identify areas for improvement, all of which have contributed to my personal and professional growth.
What support do you receive from your employer and training provider?
The time to study and focus on my assignments has been the most value part of doing an apprenticeship. I worked full time while studying my undergraduate degree and it was a difficult balance, with an apprenticeship I have protected time to study. I have also received additional support and equipment for my dyslexia which has transformed how I engage with my studies and the work I produce.
Would you recommend an apprenticeship to others? Why?
Absolutely, I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone considering it. You develop skills that are directly relevant to your career, all while earning and learning simultaneously. I’d just add that the support network throughout my apprenticeship has been invaluable. From mentors to peers, everyone’s been encouraging and willing to share their knowledge. The experience has broadened my outlook on possible career paths within local government.
