I have worked for the MSI service for almost 2 ½ years now and I love doing this job for many reasons. First and foremost I greatly enjoy the specialised, individualised and focused time and support we get to give to an amazing group of children and young people, we get to support them at school and socially and be there for every amazing moment and achievement, helping them to reach every goal and have lots of fun along the way.
We are given lots of training, which is constantly updated and refreshed, enabling us to further our own careers along side giving the children and young people the best support possible. All of our children and young people make me feel so proud of each and everyone of them. I also get to work within an amazing team of other MSWs all with different backgrounds, experiences and knowledge to share with one another, held together by an amazingly supportive team of team leaders and managers.
I love that we get to support in lots of different educational settings specialist and mainstream schools and alternative education places, giving us access to further learn from colleagues at these establishments too. Before I did this job I had experience within early years, young peoples mental health, youth work and private enabling and whilst all of that helped, I have been able to learn so much more and grow within my career as an MSW, whilst having days that are also simply just fun!
There are days for supporting learning, achieving goals and working hard, but also times when we go for fun days out, belly laugh until our sides hurt, sing silly songs and just make sure we have all had an amazing day, no two days are ever the same.
