Job title: Interaction Designer

Area of work: Digital Transformation Team

I started at Devon County Council in September 2020 having come from the private sector. I was looking for a new challenge that had opportunities to grow and develop. The role as an Interaction Designer at DCC seemed the perfect fit for me.

In my role, I look at the interactions between service users and technology. I identify the needs of the user in relation to the service they wish to use and work out the best way this interaction can take place. Keeping the needs of the user in mind, I design and create prototypes and concepts to transform the accessibility of the service. An example of this was working with the registration team and assisting with the transformation in the way people use technology to book their ceremonies.

I love designing concepts and enjoy creating systems that make a real difference to Devon residents. I have a great team, fantastic development opportunities, and regular catch ups with my manager. Since starting at DCC I have had access to job specific training which has really aided my development.

The pension scheme at DCC is really great, and the salary is very competitive. I find the flexible working opportunities to be of real benefit, as well as having my own laptop and access to Office 365 systems. This has allowed our team to continue provide excellent services throughout the COVID pandemic.
