Job title: Project Manager

Area of work: Performance, Supplier Management and Support

Prior to working for DCC I worked abroad in the private sector as an IT contractor for a number of years however the pull to come back to the South West proved to be too strong and I set about looking for a job that would suit me.  I was originally taken on by DCC on a temporary contract as a Project Manager in the ICT Commissioning Team. I was tasked with working with our IT delivery partner, Scomis, on rolling out the Skype telecom system across the Council as well as other telephony/network projects.

During the project, an opportunity arose for me to apply for a permanent Project Manager post with DCC and my application was successful. Knowing of the technology, tools and management support for flexible working within DCC, these were big factors in my deciding to apply for the post as a healthy work-life balance is very important to me.

With Skype I’m able to carry out my tasks and run my projects from wherever I may be. I live in the centre of Plymouth and can maintain a good work life balance with the help of the technology. This means I get to see my grandson more often than I would otherwise, so for me it’s an ideal solution. I also have more time for my other interests as I am the Chair of my village’s Traders and Residents Association as well as being a basketball coach for the Plymouth under 7’s and, in the near future, becoming a board member of the Wolseley Trust.
