I have worked at a DCC Children’s Home since March 2024. Going from working for the NHS in nursery settings it is clear where the better resources and support is and that is working for the Devon County Council.
During my time so far, I have learnt many skills and continue to do so. I never thought I would be giving medications to the extent that I am to the young people, it can be challenging at times but also extremely rewarding and interesting. No two days are ever the same!
I enjoy the range of Young people but sometimes find that the mixture does not work on some days such as when there are children with behavioural issues and very complex needs children who require a lot of support.
Working for Devon County Council has many perks and I’m enjoying the different shifts and flexibility within the team and management. It is obvious that the team leaders and management care about their staff and will try to accommodate whenever they can.
I wish I had applied for this role a lot sooner! It has many perks such as days off during the week, planning/taking days out and activities with the young people, forever learning new skill, pay and holiday benefits. I enjoy my current role as a Residential Support Worker and still feel there is a lot to learn within the role. It is good to know that there is room to progress and move up to higher roles, this may be something I am interested in the near future. I hope to continue working for the company for a long time.
