Do it for families in Devon

The Family Time service enable children, who are in the care of the local authority, to maintain contact with their families and meet their statutory duties as detailed under Section 34(1) of the Children Act 1989, where a child is in the care of a Local Authority, the Local Authority must allow ‘reasonable contact’ between a child in its care and their parents, guardian, and others with parental responsibility.

Family Time, is the opportunity for children who are in the care of the Local Authority to spend time with their parents, family members and other important people in their lives. It is essential that children and young people are supported to maintain relationships with their families and other people who are important to them.

The Family time service is a countywide service that is based across three venues in Exeter, Barnstaple, and Newton Abbot.

Manager

The Countywide Manager is oversees the smooth running of all of the Family Time centres, supporting the Team Leaders to fulfil their role. They are responsible for the overall management of the area team leaders and the Family Time centres. They liaise with both internal and external stakeholders, working in partnership with young people, parents, carers and professional. The manager considers the views and opinions of all stakeholders to inform the development of the service and address operational issues if they arise.

Team Leader

Team Leaders manage the team of Family Time Supervisors across one of the 3 sites. They link closely with the Countywide Manager and each other, to ensure a consistent approach is implemented across all sites. They support the Family Time Supervisors with all aspects or their role and link with other agencies to ensure a positive experience is had by children and their families who access the service. They are passionate in ensuring that Family Time Supervisors have the tools to provide positive sessions for families.

Family Time Supervisor

The role of the Family Time Supervisor is to ensure that each Family Time session runs smoothly by working closely and professionally with colleagues, Social Workers, Foster Carers and other Court or Social Work professionals to deliver positive and meaningful family time sessions for children and their families. The are responsible for the detailed recording of information around sessions so have high attention to detail. Family Time Supervisors are passionate about safeguarding children and are child focussed in their practice to promote positive relationships between children and their families.
