Totnes Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) will be undergoing significant maintenance/engineering works from Saturday 31st January 2026 until Sunday 15th March 2026 (inclusive).
During the works, the site will be closed to the public from 31/01/2026 to 15/03/2026 (inclusive).
Alternative facilities are available at Newton Abbot, Kingsbridge and Ivybridge. We thank you for your understanding.
A limited number of recycling centres will be able to accept waste upholstered domestic seating (for example, sofas and armchairs). Please see waste upholstered domestic seating for more details.
What we do
Devon County Council is responsible for the safe disposal of all municipal household waste generated in the eight districts of Devon.
We are dedicated to reducing, reusing, recycling, composting and as a last option, recovering energy wherever possible.

Can I bring my general dustbin/black bag waste to the recycling centre?
Restricted quantities of this waste (8 bags in a 12 month period) are acceptable by prior arrangement only (facility not available at all sites) and only when the district council are not able to collect it. Please contact your local district, city or borough council in the first instance.

My kerbside waste/recycling has not been collected
The collection of your bins is the responsibility of your local district, city or borough council.

I have lost my recycling boxes, how can I get new ones?
New recycling boxes should be requested from your local district, city or borough council.

I have employed a tradesperson to undertake work on my property and they have left behind waste, can I bring this down to the recycling centre?
Waste that has been left by a tradesperson is not accepted at any of our recycling centres. More information is available at Business and commercial waste.
