Yes, you can be a councillor if you have a disability. The Public Sector Equality Duty requires local authorities to consider all individuals and make reasonable adjustments to accommodate councillors who are disabled. This duty is anticipatory, meaning councils must plan ahead for the needs of people with disabilities.
Councillors who are disabled may also be eligible for Access to Work grants, which could help pay for things like specialist equipment, support workers, and travel if you cannot use public transport.
