Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) & Occupational Therapists (OTs)

Please provide a copy of the Service Level Agreements between Devon County Council and the local NHS Trusts, as regards the provision of SLT and OT within Littletown Primary Academy.

Please provide a copy of the Service Level Agreements between Devon County Council and the local NHS Trusts, as regards the provision of SLT and OT within Honiton Community College.

Devon County Council has Section 75 agreements for OTs which are commissioned by Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), but are not targeted to any particular school. Therefore there are no service level agreements between Devon County Council and the local NHS Trusts regarding OTs, and so this information is not held by DCC.

SLTs work as part of a multi-disciplinary team which is commissioned by the Devon CCG. Just as with the OTs, SLT provision is not targeted to any particular school.

Schools, including academies, can buy in the services they need for their particular children. Please contact each individual school for more information.

Does Devon County Council have any contracts with any specific Primary Care Trusts for any SLT and / or OT provision within:

  • maintained mainstream schools
  • special schools; and
  • specialist units?

Under each of these contracts:

  • what specific funding do you provide; and
  • what SLT and / or OT is provided?
    – how often
    – for how long
    – by whom (qualified therapist / TA)

Devon County Council has Section 75 agreements for OTs which are commissioned by Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), but are not targeted to any particular school. Therefore there are no contracts between Devon County Council and any Primary Care Trusts regarding OTs, and so this information is not held by DCC.

SLTs work as part of a multi-disciplinary team which is commissioned by the Devon CCG. Just as with the OTs, SLT provision is not targeted to any particular school.

Schools, including academies, can buy in the services they need for their particular children. Please contact each individual school for more information.

As Devon County Council does not have any contracts, this question is not applicable.

What is the Age Weighted Pupil Unit (AWPU) or similarly named sum / fund which would follow pupils into mainstream school?

Does the amount vary with the age of pupil? If so, what is the amount for senior school pupils?

The AWPU/Base Entitlement per pupil for the 2021/22 financial year is:

Primary – £3,147.59

KS3 – £4,428.59

KS4 – £4,987.59

Transport

Please provide details of:

  • the transport costs;
  • the escort costs;

from EX14 9TS to Trinity School (TQ14 8LY) by taxi, also specifying distance and duration of the route used.

The cost would be in the region of £240.00 per day based on current availability.  This includes the escort cost.  This price would be subject to a full tender taking place

The route taken would be take approximately 45 minutes via the A30, Junction 29 of M5, A380 and then the B3192 into Teignmouth.  Distance is 30 miles.

Please detail whether the above journey would be shared with other pupils.

If so, what distance and duration this would add to the journey?

There are no other pupils to currently link the transport into.  Should this change any journey times and distances for shared transport takes into account the Education Transport Policy.

Within this policy Section 9.27 sets out the position on journey times.  As well as journey times shared transport will take into account the individual needs of each child on that journey travelling together.

How will:

  • training; and
  • the introduction of new / substitute drivers and escorts be managed?

Driver and escort training is set out in the Driver & Escort Handbook.  In addition to those listed on page 23, drivers also now undertake data protection training, and for drivers and escorts the equality and safeguarding training is now the “Equality, Diversity and safeguarding” training.

Introductions take place between contractor driver and escorts and parent/passengers, who can include the necessary arrangements for substitute/relief drivers and escorts.

Any additional training will take place if required to meet any additional special needs not covered by mandatory training

Officers within our Transport Coordination Service will work closely with contractors, crews and parents.
