Micro Tree Nursery Volunteer Role

Role description: Assist with the Stover veteran tree project, part of the Lottery funded ‘Restoring Stover Park’ project. To enable the successful running of the tree nurseries across Newton Abbot.

When: 1-2 hours per week depending in the school holidays, flexible hours best suited to the volunteer

Where: Multiple Locations: Stover Country Park, The Courtenay Centre Micro Nursery, Heathfield Micro Nursery

Commitment: Until the saplings are ready to plant out at Stover Country Park

Positions available: 3 to 4 per site to share out hours

Supported by: Restoring Stover Park – Community Engagement Officer

Tasks and activities:

  • Collecting and sorting seeds and saplings
  • Watering saplings in the tree nurseries in the school holidays and weekends
  • Weeding nurseries when necessary

Training and Skills Received:

  • Induction in Stover Country Park, tree nurseries, lone working
  • On going support

Personal qualities and experience:

  • Reliable
  • Able to work outdoors unsupervised after training
  • Self motivated
  • Interested in aiding the restoration of Stover Country Park

Access to all relevant equipment will be provided, including watering cans, water. Reasonable expenses may be claimed
