We believe in a compassionate approach to eating well, nutrition and healthier weight.
We know that there are lots of things that influence someone’s weight, and achieving a healthy weight is not always as simple as eating less and moving more. Our environment can have a big influence on our opportunities and choices, such as:
- the types of shops we can access and how easy it is to get to the shops
- the cost of food
- the kind of food advertising we see around us
- whether we have access to suitable food preparation and cooking equipment
- the stress we may experience in our busy lives
- how confident we feel about being physically active
- health conditions we experience
A compassionate approach recognises this and avoids blame and judgement – body weight is just one part of our health and a healthy body can be a variety of shapes and sizes. We want everybody in Devon to achieve happy, healthy and fulfilling lives and feel valued just as they are.
