DEVON COUNTY COUNCIL

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2026

NOTICE is hereby given that Devon County Council has made the above titled order.

The order came into force on Tuesday 13 January 2026 and would have expired on Sunday 12 July 2026.

By direction of the Secretary of State in exercise of his powers under Section 15(5) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the order shall continue in force until 12 January 2027 or until works have been completed, whichever is sooner.

No persons and horse riders shall proceed on the affected path except for access to land or premises on or adjacent to that length of path. The order will continue in force for a period not exceeding six months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the sooner.
Public right of way affected:

PUBLIC BRIDLEWAY NO. 25, SOUTH BRENT; PUBLIC BRIDLEWAY NO. 26, SOUTH BRENT; PUBLIC BRIDLEWAY NO. 8, DEAN PRIOR – being consecutive sections of the Public Bridleway running from Shipley Bridge to the Avon Dam – from the junction with Road C155 at Shipley Bridge, to the junction with PUBLIC BRIDLEWAY NO. 9, DEAN PRIOR.

There is no alternative route.

The closure is necessary on safety grounds due to significant subsidence of the surface along much of the route.
