Early Years Leadership National Professional Qualification (NPQEYL)

About:

This 21-month Teach First programme (18 months’ delivery and three months for assessment) consists of a series of modules based on the Department for Education’s National Professional Qualification (NPQ) frameworks.

Who is this for?

The programme is for leaders qualified to at least level 3 with a full and relevant qualification who are, or are aspiring to be:

  • Managers of private, voluntary and independent nurseries
  • Other early years foundation stage leaders, such as reception class teachers or early years co-ordinators
  • Headteachers of school-based or maintained nurseries
  • Childminders with leadership responsibilities

Each module cycle features:

  • Evidence-based online content to refresh and build knowledge, as well as exemplify what this looks like for your role and level of leadership
  • A formative assessment task to support your learning
  • An online seminar a group of peers, facilitated by a serving leader from an Early Years setting – you’ll analyse and reflect on the task and hear further examples of good practice
  • The opportunity to record reflections and consolidate learning

Overview

This course will help you gain confidence and develop skills in:

  • delivering high-quality early education and care
  • organisational management and staff development
  • giving constructive feedback to parents and carers
  • working with children who have additional and special educational needs
  • implementing improvements

This course will:

  • take 18 months to complete
  • involve an average of 1 to 2 hours of study each week
  • be a mix of self-study and group sessions
  • involve a written assessment
  • start in autumn 2024

Funding

It has now been confirmed that funding for this NPQ will be available for those teachers and leaders who work in the most challenging schools or educational settings, serving more disadvantaged communities. Specifically, schools with the highest 50% of pupil premium pupils will be eligible to receive this funding.

If your provision school is not eligible for funding, the course cost is £1,090.
