Early years inclusion virtual drop-in consultations including update for childminders

Don’t forget to make use of our weekly, locality-based virtual Inclusion drop-in consultations.

These sessions offer a solution-focused opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns relating to an individual child’s development, or to explore aspects of SEND practice and provision within your setting.

Each consultation is attended by a Team Lead, an Early Years Quality and Inclusion Partner (EYQIP) and an Early Years Sufficiency and Welfare Advisor (EYSWA). They may also be attended by a range of partners including Nursery Plus, Educational Psychologists and Family Hub colleagues. Together, they can provide advice, support and signposting tailored to your needs.

Settings are encouraged to book a consultation to discuss:

  • Attendance, emotional dysregulation or anxiety concerns
  • SEND provision, including implementing a graduated approach, Ordinarily Available Inclusive Provision (OAIP) and targeted support
  • Children who may be at risk of, or are already experiencing, a reduction in funded hours
  • Transition planning and support

Appointments last up to 30 minutes and are usually held on Wednesday afternoons.

New: dedicated evening sessions for childminders

We are pleased to introduce monthly evening inclusion drop-in consultations specifically for childminders in each locality.

These dedicated sessions provide childminders with an opportunity to access the same advice, guidance and support at a time that better fits around their working day. Whether discussing a specific child, SEND practice, inclusion, transitions or wider concerns, the locality team is here to help.

Please note that childminder evening consultations have a separate booking system from the regular inclusion drop-ins, and childminders should use the dedicated booking links for these sessions. Childminders can still book on to the afternoon sessions if they wish and is convenient for them.

Please note: these consultations are for pre-reception children only. If discussing an individual child, parental consent must be obtained and retained within your records. There is no requirement to send consent forms to the Early Years team. Information about parental consent is available here: EY Education Quality and Inclusion Drop Ins Parental Consent.docx

For details of both the weekly inclusion drop-ins and the new childminder evening sessions, please use the booking links relevant to your locality.
