Wraparound childcare funding – don’t miss out!

Devon has been awarded over £3.5 million to help schools, childminders, and providers expand, or launch wraparound childcare services. This is a fantastic opportunity to boost childcare availability and support working families across the county.

Flexible funding to meet local needs

Providers can now access funding even for partial hours, making it easier for smaller or rural settings to participate.

To qualify

  • Breakfast clubs must run at least 30 minutes before school
  • After-school clubs must run at least 90 minutes after school
  • Provision must operate at least 3 days a week, both before and after school

What’s available?

  • Schools and PVIs offering a full wraparound service (17.5 hours/week) could receive up to £38,000 over five terms
  • If you’re already delivering before- and after-school childcare and have the space and staffing to grow, you could apply for £200 for each new childcare place created, plus £1000 expansion grant
  • Childminders launching new wraparound services can claim a £600 start-up grant, plus £200 per childcare place created

Funding should

  • Respond to local demand
  • Increase childcare places
  • Be flexible in delivery and location
  • Include exceptions for special schools

Delivery options

Childcare can be delivered on, or off a school site. Schools unable to run provision directly can partner with private providers.

Key dates

  • Funding is available for up to five terms, with a review after the first year
  • Applications close February 2026 – act now!
  • All funded childcare must start before 31st March 2026
