Do you know which safeguarding training you need to do for your role?

If you have safeguarding responsibilities (i.e. you are the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy DSL, you will need to make sure you undertake relevant group 3 training:

Inital group 3 training:

• Course: Multi-Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection (Group 3 Core)

(this training can be booked via the DEL training website)

Fully funded for DSL / Deputy DSL.

Refresher group 3 training (after 3 years*):

• Early Years and Childcare: Safeguarding and child protection enhanced (DSL/DDSL) training (online or in person) | DES

Fully funded for DSL / Deputy DSL.

(this training can be booked via the Devon Education Services Shop)

All others members of staff must undertake the Safeguarding and Child Protection Core (all early years and childcare practitioners) group 2 core training (either as a virtual course or as eLearning):

• Early Years and Childcare: Safeguarding and Child Protection Core (all early years and childcare practitioners) | DES – this is the virtual course and can be booked via the Shop.
• Early Years and Childcare: Safeguarding and Child Protection Core (all early years and childcare practitioners) online learning course | DES– this is the eLearning and can be accessed via the Shop.

Fully funded.

Changes to safeguarding training requirements:

*From September 2025 safeguarding training will need to be updated every 2 years (instead of every 3 years) as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
