Do you know which safeguarding training you need to do for your role?

If you have safeguarding responsibilities (i.e. you are the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy DSL, or are a Childminder, you will need to make sure you undertake relevant group 3 Enhanced training:

Early Years and Childcare: Safeguarding and child protection enhanced (DSL/DDSL) training (online or in person) | DES

Fully funded for DSL / Deputy DSL.

(this training can be booked via the Devon Education Services Shop)

All others members of staff must undertake the Safeguarding and Child Protection Core (all early years and childcare practitioners) group 2 core training (either as a virtual course or as eLearning):

Fully funded.

LADO training:

This video will give you the essential knowledge and understanding required to manage and respond to allegations appropriately, in line with the statutory guidance outlined in Annex C of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

EYCS: Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) online learning | DES

Changes to safeguarding training requirements:

If you work in a setting required to follow the EYFS, changes came into effect from September 2025 that you need to be aware of. The changes will ensure that early years educators have the knowledge and support they need to keep children as safe as possible. To find out more visit: Early years foundation stage (EYFS) safeguarding – GOV.UK

Important – safeguarding training will need to be updated every 2 years (instead of every 3 years) as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

How to create a Shop account:

You will need a Shop account in order to access the above training. We have put together a helpful guide on how to create a Shop account and how to search for early years training on the Shop: Training website (Shop) – Information for childcare providers
