A focus on Inclusion and SEND in the EYFS

Over the next few weeks we will share some of the resources and services that Devon provides as part of its early years offer. This week we will share the work of our Nursery Plus team.

Nursery Plus

Nursery Plus is a Devon outreach service which helps Early Years settings support 3 – 4-year-old children with additional or Special Educational needs at a targeted level. This involves working closely with individual children and their parents/carers, other professional services and setting practitioners and leaders.

Nursery Plus support focuses on empowering settings to meet the needs of all children and especially those with SEND.

These are some of the ways Nursery Plus currently works in partnership with settings in Devon:

  • Regular visits to the setting for a sustained period working directly with the child and modelling strategies and activities to setting practitioners
  • Supporting and contributing to the Assess-Plan-Do-Review (APDR) process
  • Supporting individual children with transition to school
  • Using Video Interactive Guidance (VIG) to provide high quality professional development for setting practitioners
  • Using The Thrive Approach to develop a setting plan to support children’s emotional regulation
  • Signposting to other services and attending multi-agency meetings in relation to individual children
