- Regarding supported internships, what are the range of learning providers in Devon? Are they just standard colleges or are AP or other providers available? Is there a list available?
In Devon, supported internships are offered by a variety of learning providers, including standard colleges and alternative provision providers. - Do you need to pay for courses and english, maths with Learn Devon after the age of 19?
No, you do not need to pay for English and maths courses with Learn Devon if you have not previously attained a GCSE in the subject at grade 4 or above (or equivalent). These courses are free for individuals who meet certain criteria. More information can be found at Fees and funding – Learn Devon.
- What support can a young person have if they are over 19 and their EHCP has ceased? It limits the education/training they can access. It was a construction course in Plymouth
If a young person is over 19 and their EHCP has ceased, they can still access support through various options. Learn Devon offers courses that can help, and employment and youth hubs across the county provide additional support.
Additionally, job coaches and other services are available to build confidence and assist in accessing education and training.
- Can you confirm RFI would support someone over 18/19?
Yes, RFI supports individuals over the age of 18/19 with no upper age limit.
- How do young people who are home educated access careers advice? My understanding is that CSW doesn’t offer this service to home educated young people anymore
Young people who are home educated can access careers advice through various resources such as youth employment hubs, which offer free tailored support to suit the individual – for example, online or in-person appointments at a time and pace that suits the young person.
Additionally, there are online resources, for example, Careerpilot. National Careers Service provides guidance to help young people make informed career choices.
CSW Group has now ceased trading and the team that were delivering careers information, advice and guidance on behalf of Devon County Council has been taken in-house and are called the ‘Post-16 Learning Participation Team’. The offer remains the same for this academic year (2024/25). The offer is as follows:
Young people with an EHCP
The Post-16 Learning Participation Team (Post-16 LPT) contact the parents of young people with an EHCP in year 9 to explain our offer and discuss post-16 options.
In year 10 and year 11, Post-16 LPT provide careers information, advice and guidance to young people that want to change placement at the end of year 11. This also applies to those young people receiving home tuition post 16 that want to change placement at the end of their current academic year.
If a young person does not have an EHCP
Post-16 LPT can provide careers information, advice and guidance from May if the young person does not have an identified placement for post-16.
- Can you confirm that if a young person is receiving Universal Credit and has a job coach, the job coach is able to organise CSCS training and exams
Yes, if a young person is receiving Universal Credit and has a work coach in the jobcentre, the work coach can organise CSCS training and exams to help them gain the necessary qualifications for employment.
