Health services for everyone (universal)

Information about the health services available to everyone in Devon, including children and young people with SEND and their families

Universal health services

  • GPs

    Your GP (General Practitioner) is often the first port of call when you have any health concerns. If needed they can make referrals to more specialist services for assessments and support.

  • Dentists

    Many children and young people with SEND will be able to visit a community dentist. If this is a problem then your dentist may be able to refer you to a specialist dental service.

  • Pharmacies

    Pharmacists can give advice on a range of conditions. They may also be able to offer treatment and some prescription medicine for some conditions, without you needing to see a GP.

  • Health visitors

    The health visiting team offer support from a baby’s birth to five years old

  • School nurses

    The School Nursing Service provides information and support to school-aged children and their families who live in Devon or who attend a Devon school

  • Child Health Services – Torbay and South Devon

    Information from the Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust about the child health services they offer

  • Paediatrics – Royal Devon University Healthcare Trust

    Information about the children and young people’s service by the Royal Devon and Exeter, and North Devon District Hospitals
