Road Infrastructure and Parking

I would like to request the most recent available data, ideally for the 2024 calendar year (or the latest year held), relating to road infrastructure and parking within your local authority area.

Specifically, please provide the following as total counts for your local authority area:

· The total number of bus lanes (defined as distinct designated bus lane sections)

16.

· The total number of roundabouts

Please see this Devon County Council (DCC) webpage for this information.

· The total number of traffic signals (traffic lights)

393 (178 junctions and 215 pedestrian crossings)

· The total number of one-way roads

Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 makes provision for public authorities to refuse requests for information where the cost of compliance would exceed the appropriate limit, which for local government is set at £450 or 18 hours of officer time.

In order to locate and retrieve this information, we would have to review approximately 6,000 traffic orders that were implemented prior to 31.12.2014 to identify whether or not they were live and whether they contain one-way streets.

As this would take approximately 2 minutes per traffic order this would be around 200 hours work, which would be far in excess of the 18 hours appropriate limit.

This response acts as a Refusal Notice for this part of your request.

In the interests of providing advice and assistance, we can confirm that details of the traffic regulation orders containing this information can be found online at Traffic Regulation Orders – Roads and transport

· The total number of speed cameras and average speed enforcement cameras (excluding mobile units where not recorded)

44 (29 speed and /or red light cameras and 15 average speed enforcement cameras)

· Number of publicly accessible parking spaces managed by the local authority (including on-street and council-operated off-street parking)

32,275 on-street spaces

Regarding off-street car parks, this information is not held by DCC.

· The total number of disabled parking spaces within the above

1,698 on-street spaces

Regarding off-street car parks, this information is not held by DCC.

In addition, if available, please provide a breakdown of these figures for the city of Exeter and the city of Plymouth.

Devon County Council does not hold the information for the City of Plymouth. In the interests of providing advice and assistance, please see this DCC webpage for contact details for Plymouth City Council.
