Potholes and electric charging points – numbers and spend – 2020-2021

Please can you provide all information for the financial year 2020-21, and from the start of financial year 2021 to 31 December 2021:

1. How many potholes were reported?

55,617 potholes reported in 2020/21 Financial Year.

35,111 potholes reported 01/04/2021 – 31/12/2021.

We have taken ‘reported’ to mean pothole defects instructed and passed to our contractor.

2. How many potholes were repaired?

56,441 potholes repaired in 2020/21 Financial Year.

35,963 potholes repaired between 01/04/2021 – 31/12/2021.

3. Total money spent on repairing potholes.

£6,521,794 2020/21 Financial Year.

£3,489,183 between 01/04/2021 – 31/12/2021.

The expenditure figures provided relate to the Safety Defects budget as a whole; there is no specific budget for repairing safety potholes. This means all works undertaken within the Safety Defects budget are not specific only to safety defect potholes but will also include works for all other safety defect types as defined within the authorities Highway Safety Policy  A selection of examples of the other types of works which would be funded through this budget are footway trips and rocking slabs, defective ironwork, damaged fencing, overgrown hedges and bushes etc.

4. What is the current number of potholes which have been reported but not repaired?

There are 419 potholes awaiting repair as of 20.01.2022.

5. How many pothole compensation claims were paid out?

2020/21

326 claims involving potholes were settled in this period

April 2021 – December 2021

142 claims involving potholes were settled in this period.

6. What was the total value of compensation claims paid out?

2020/21  

The damages amount totalled £102,994.

April 2021 – Dec 2021

The damages amount totalled £763,254.

Electric car charging points

Please can you provide me with the current number of council-provided electric charging points in the council area.

We currently have 5 charging points, which are for Devon County Council fleet use only. Devon County Council does not own or operate public electric vehicle charge points.
