From July 2023 – July 2024, 10 school attendance orders were served on parents whose children were deemed to not be receiving a suitable education in line with section 7 of the Education Act 1996.
5. What was the outcome of SAOs for the period between the 6th August 2023 and 6th August 2024?
2 were proven in absence and 2 were found guilty.
6. How many children do you have recorded as a Child Missing Education (CME) that are not subject to S437(1) or SAO?

7. In the last 12 months, what is the range of time period between a parent requesting the LA provide a school place and the child starting at the school? (for example a home educated child that wishes to go to school, or a family has moved to the area and wants a school place).

With regards to the attached spreadsheet, please note the following:
• Weekends and school holidays need to be factored in when considering the length of time taken.
• Some admission requests are delayed because house moves get delayed and there can be delays from the point the place is allocated due to the child being placed on roll and arriving in Devon.
• If the child holds a school place in Devon and is applying for a change of school where no house move has taken place, it is common for pupils to transfer at the end of the term/half term for continuity and to reduce the burden on schools having to induct pupils all year round.
