Deaf Community and Employee Support

1. Do you provide community information videos which are accessible to British Sign Language users or the Deaf Community in general?

It is up to individual services to decide when to create information in BSL video format. This may be done ‘on request’ or where there is anticipated need in line with the duty to make reasonable adjustments. Examples videos that have been produced include:

Translated resources – Coronavirus (COVID-19) (devon.gov.uk)

DCC provides a ‘live’ video interpreting service to Deaf users who wish to contact the Council or have information translated from our website British Sign Language – Devon County Council

2. What is the name, job title, department and email address of the individual/s responsible for this?

As explained above, this is down to individual services. There is no single person who is responsible for providing information in BSL.

3. Do you provide communication support for Deaf Employees?

Communication support is provided by the service area in which the employee works. No individual is responsible.  This forms part of our requirements to ensure reasonable adjustments are in place. Service areas work closely with Human Resources, our Occupational Health provider and Access to Work to ensure that with the individual their needs are met.
