Section 47 Referrals

How many Section 47 referrals has the council had, in each year, over the past five years (Apr-Mar for each year)?

Section 47 Enquiry figures (National and Local) are published as part of the Children In Need Published Statistics

Please include a summary of the child’s condition and the outcome for each case

From our preliminary assessment, Devon County Council (DCC) estimate that compliance with your request would exceed the appropriate costs limit under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

This is currently £450 or 18 hours of officer time. DCC would need to manually check each case on the system to ascertain what happened to the child after the Section 47 Enquiry. It would take a minimum of 5 minutes to check each case, and there are 1000’s of cases each year.

As such, DCC are applying the S12 exemption to this question.

In order to assist the requester, we could like to state that the Published Statistics from question 1 also provide figures of how many Section 47 Enquiries lead to Initial Child Protection Conferences, which may be of relevance.

Please can you also tell me the number of children on a Child In Need or Child Protection Plan over the same five years and how many children have been in care for same time period?
