Claims made for pavement hazards

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I am requesting the following information related to pavement hazards. Please provide this information for the 12 months to the end of April 2018 (or 12 months to the closest date possible to the end of April).

1) How many individual claims have been made to your council for damage / injury sustained by pedestrians encountering pavement hazards (such as poor surfaces, loose paving slabs, raised or sunken iron work, potholes, damaged kerbs, flooded footpaths, head-height signs etc)

In the period 30/4/17 to 3/4/18 90 claims have been made.

2) The percentage of the total number of claims that were successful

Personal injury claims can take a number of months to resolve, and if they are contested, can take more than a year. To date, none have been successful.

3) The total value of compensation claims paid by your authority for such injuries

See our answer to question 2 above.
