Registered deaths and population 2015-2020

1. The total amount of cremations and burials in Devon County Council jurisdiction from January 2015 to December 2020, listed separately and annually. If not possible to list cremations and burials separately, it will be acceptable to list them together.

Devon County Council is not responsible for cremations and burials, therefore does not hold this information.  Public health funerals are the responsibility of District and Unitary councils in Devon; please contact them directly using the information on the link provided.

 2. If possible – the number of deaths of people by age in the following categories for each year:

 “0-25 years old”

“26-50 yeas old”

“50-75 years old”

“over 75 years old”

Devon County Council does not record this data in a manner that can be easily extracted from our systems.  Therefore, in order to provide an answer we would have to undertake a manual interrogation of each individual death registered over the five period.  We estimate that it would take greater than the 18 hours that the Council is obliged to spend answering a freedom of information request to provide a response to this question.  As such, we consider that Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act applies (cost of compliance exceeds the appropriate limits) applies.

The NHS may hold this data.

By way of assistance we provide the following data

Number of deaths registered from 1st January to 1st December
2015 6391
2016 6329
2017 6224
2018 6293
2019 6561
2020 7133
