Please can the council provide financial and records for the past two financial years showing the costs the council has incurred in defence and litigation for cases involving claims against the council for damage caused to users of highways and their property for roads under the authority and accountability of the council to maintain. Please can this information include the volume of cases associated with these costs and outcome of the overall ruling of these cases.
From 1/04/2022 – 01/04/2024 we paid out £227,743 in legal fees on 61 claims for personal injury property damage/relating to highway defects.
