Resettling refugee families
Refugee resettlement plays a key role in the global response to humanitarian crises: it saves lives and offers stability to refugees most in need of protection. Refugees are displaced by conflict, violence and persecution. They do not leave their countries out of choice. The UK has a proud history of providing protection to those who need it, and resettlement schemes enable us to give the opportunity of a new start to those who have been forced to flee their homes.
In recent years, local councils working together across Devon have helped to resettle families from Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine as part of the refugee resettlement schemes. The UK government provides funding to councils to support a family with their local integration. As part of this work, we are looking to lease properties from private landlords to house refugee families.
Lease your property for refugee resettlement
We are looking for entire, self-contained properties that can be rented to refugee families, where the landlord or property owner does not live in the property. Refugees coming to Devon are placed in private rental properties, rather than social housing, so part of our work is finding private landlords who would be prepared to rent out their properties to refugees. Properties are rented at Local Housing Allowance rates and arrivals will be eligible to work and claim benefits. More information for landlords and how they can help.
