Play training
We are excited to let you know about some new play training which is available to practitioners who working in the out of school sector (breakfast club, after school club, holiday club and HAF and wraparound provision).
Practitioners can choose to undertake one of the courses, or they can choose to attend both. The Playtime training is an introductory course and the Facilitating children’s right to play is a good follow up as it will allow practitioners to gain more knowledge and theory about play.
The training can be booked through the Devon Education Services Shop. You will need a shop account in order to book on. It’s easy to create a shop account. Please see instructions on how to create a shop account.

Playtime training (virtual)
A 3 hour training session endorsed by Play England. The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of the role of an adult in creating supportive environments for children’s freely chosen play opportunities.
Participants will be given the opportunity to participate in activities which will underpin this knowledge and how this can then be transferred into their own settings.
Learners will have a Learner Notebook with all relevant information. Learners will also need to complete a multi-choice question paper following the taught session. You must complete the question paper in order to receive a certificate of attendance. Certificates will be issued on completion of the course.
This training is for practitioners working in settings funded by the wraparound childcare programme, or HAF funded settings and early years and childcare settings which provide out of school clubs.

Facilitating children’s right to play (face to face)
The aim of the course is to explore in detail the key theories and legislation which underpin the importance of, and need for providing the opportunity and space for children’s play, Including play cues, play principles and types of play to help you to support the children in your settings, whilst considering the impact of the playworker on their play and the play space. This is a face to face session.
Participants will be given the opportunity to participate in activities which will underpin this knowledge and how this can then be transferred into their own setting.
Open to all practitioners who working the out of school sector i.e.; breakfast club, after school club, holiday club and HAF provision. The focus of this course is to work with children from reception to year six.
