Aim of the training
To give providers the knowledge, skills and confidence to successfully promote their settings, recruit and retain team members and ensure sustainability. Sessions will be delivered in a fun, informative and interactive way, these sessions will not be recorded so you need to attend in person.

We are providing a series of three virtual, short training sessions (1.5 hours each,) details below. There is a choice of a daytime or an evening session, to be accessible to all.
Outline of the training sessions
The Big Picture – marketing wraparound care
Trainer: Sam Thomson
Aim: to give participants the tools they need to confidently promote their wraparound care provision Throughout the session, attendees will be completing a Marketing Canvas that they can continue to complete and use after the session.
We will explore:
- Promoting Wraparound Care to Parents, local communities and schools, including core messages for all to share
- To give participants the tools they need to confidently promote their wraparound care provision
- Definition of marketing, and your vision and values
- The importance of branding, what is unique about your setting?
- Top tips to promote your setting – tried and tested
Recruitment and retention – attracting and keeping the right people
Trainer: Sam Thomson
Aims: provide tools and confidence to recruit and retain people for their organisation by aligning recruitment strategies with their company’s vision, values and culture; whilst also keeping the team engaged and committed when salary increases aren’t an option.
We will explore:
- The power of vision and values
- How to create an effective, values-led recruitment campaign
- Write job adverts that attract the right candidates
- Explore low-cost, high-impact retention strategies when pay increases aren’t possible
- Identify practical next steps to improve staff engagement and long-term commitment
Financial sustainability for people who would rather be playing
Trainer: Tanya Petherick
Aim: To help providers feel more confident in understanding their numbers. For those who would rather be doing anything else than thinking about finances but will contain hints and tips for anyone working in a childcare setting. How they can support parents with making fees more affordable.
We will explore:
- Introduction to the figures that are important
- Profit and loss
- Cash flow
- Occupancy
- The needs of different stakeholders and how this impacts financial decision-making
- Why do we need financial reserves and how do we build them?
- Approaches to fee setting
- Government initiatives to support affordability
