The new inspection framework – Ofsted briefing sessions

The new inspection framework is set to be implemented in November 2025 following a comprehensive consultation process. The aim is to enhance transparency and fairness in educational assessments, introducing detailed report cards and a revised evaluation system.

Key features of the new framework include:

  • Changes to evaluation system: The framework will replace the previous single-word judgments (Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, Inadequate) with a five-point grading scale. This shift aims to provide a more nuanced understanding of school performance, taking into account the context of each provision and its individual strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Focus on quality and wellbeing: Inspections will place less emphasis on attainment data and compliance, instead prioritizing teaching quality, staff wellbeing, and pupil support. This change is intended to reduce the high-stakes pressure previously associated with inspections.
  • Detailed report cards: The new framework will introduce detailed report cards that provide a more comprehensive overview of a school’s performance, benefiting educators, parents, and stakeholders by offering clearer insights into educational quality.

As the implementation date draws near, we want to ensure early years and childcare providers are well-prepared for the upcoming changes.

To support you, we’ve scheduled two briefing sessions in November (both attended by an Ofsted Senior HMI).

We’re sharing the details now so you can save the date in your calendars!
