Communicating with babies and toddlers – online training sessions for all early year staff working with babies and toddlers

Babies and toddlers are unique children, at a crucial stage of their lives. We want to support you in your important, rewarding, and sometimes challenging role.

Online monthly sessions will be taking place on a Thursday evening at 6pm– 7pm, hosted by Alice Thornton, a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist. Whether you are new to this work or have attended training before, you are welcome to join.

Aims of the session

  • Gain new knowledge and strategies
  • Practise and build on what you already know
  • Develop more confidence in supporting babies and toddlers
  • Share your experiences with colleagues who understand your role
  • Explore practical, evidence-based approaches you can use every day
  • Collect ideas to share with parents

Topics may include

  • Early pretend play development
  • Very early communication
  • “What do I do if…?” problem-solving
  • Supporting emotions in babies and toddlers
  • Creating a communicative environment
  • Making the most of everyday opportunities
  • Eating and weaning

You will also be able to suggest topics as the sessions progress.
