Capital funding and wraparound programme funding
The government have given local authorities grant funding to set up new early years and new wraparound childcare or to expand existing provision.
Devon has been allocated £1,482,972 of Capital Funding and over £5m of Wraparound Programme Funding.
Wraparound programme funding
The Wraparound programme funding includes funding for Devon County Council to deliver the programme as well as funding that the Early Years and Childcare Service will use to support the creation of new wraparound places for primary school children between 8am and 6pm by September 2025.
The government has produced a document for schools and PVI providers: National Wraparound Childcare Programme
If you wish to discuss the provision of wraparound childcare please contact the Wraparound Programme Lead, Tania Skinner, by emailing: tania.skinner@devon.gov.uk
There will soon be a mailbox for the wraparound programme and we hope to share this with you in the next digest.
Capital funding
Capital funding must be used to fund buildings, extensions, or to make adaptations to premises. The funding is to create more early years and/or wraparound childcare places.
An Early Years place must be for children from 9 months to the term in which a child turns three years old.
Provider self update
To enable us to spend this money where it will have the greatest impact we need your help.
The information we use to identify where places are needed comes from what you tell us through your Provider Self Update. Unfortunately, the data is incomplete so we do not know where the greatest need for places is now or will be in future. This can be easily sorted; if you haven’t already done so, please complete the Provider Self Update.
Read the guidance and watch the videos before you start: Provider Self Update – Information for childcare providers (devon.gov.uk)
If you still need help please email: childcareinfo@devon.gov.uk
Hotspot areas
We have started to look at the hotspot areas that were identified in last year’s Childcare Sufficiency Assessment. We are updating the information that we have on these areas so we can better understand about the need for more places.
Hotspot areas from 2023 Childcare Sufficiency Assessment:
- Cranbrook
- Sidmouth
- South of Exeter and Exminster
- Cullompton
- Axminster
- Ilfracombe
- Bideford
- Northam
- Great Torrington
- Fremington
- Sherford
- Dawlish
- Okehampton
Important – if you have a provision within one of these areas or if your setting is not in a Hotspot Area but you believe there is a need for more early years or wraparound childcare places, please make it a priority to complete the Provider Self Update.
We will keep you updated on progress through the digest.
