New training to help every child and young person thrive

The Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson as announced the launch of a £200 million national training programme to upskill staff across early years settings, schools, and colleges. This is described as the most comprehensive SEND and inclusion training package ever introduced in England.

The purpose of the investment is to:

  • Ensure consistent, high‑quality support for children and young people with SEND
  • Equip all education staff with the tools, strategies, and confidence needed to deliver inclusive practice
  • Help more learners with SEND thrive in their local settings rather than relying on specialist placements

For early years:

  • Practical strategies for supporting SEND from the earliest stages

For schools and colleges:

  • A new flexible training programme for teachers and leaders starting next year

  • Teaching assistants and support staff will also receive dedicated professional development opportunities
