Enhanced safeguarding training expanded ahead of EYFS safeguarding reforms
The Devon Early Years and Childcare Service is pleased to announce an expansion of its Enhanced Safeguarding training in preparation for the upcoming Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) safeguarding reforms, which come into effect on 1st September 2025.
This course meets all the statutory training requirements for Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs), ensuring early years professionals are fully prepared to implement the new safeguarding standards.
Important update for previous attendees
If you have completed the Enhanced safeguarding training course (formerly known as the Early years group 3 refresher) within the last two years, there is no immediate need to retake the training, as all required content under the new reforms has already been covered.
However, please note that from September 2025 safeguarding training will need to be updated every two years, rather than the current three-year cycle. This change is part of the broader reforms aimed at strengthening safeguarding practices across early years settings.
Policy and audit tools being updated
In addition to the training updates, we are currently revising our template Safeguarding Policy and Safeguarding Self-Audit Tool to reflect the new EYFS safeguarding reforms. These updated resources will be made available on our website shortly to support settings in aligning with the new requirements.
