What is wraparound childcare?

Wraparound childcare “wraps” around the school day from at least 8am to at least 6pm and is for primary school aged children, reception to year six. The application process for schools and childcare settings is now live:  Wraparound childcare – Information for providers – Information for childcare providers (devon.gov.uk)

We have already received applications from 21 schools and from private, voluntary and independent providers. To date, 14 settings have opened or expanded hours, in this first half of the autumn term, and a further 6 settings are starting after half term.

Wraparound childcare SEND and government funding streams workshops

We have arranged a couple of wraparound childcare workshops on the 1st and 2nd October 2024. These workshops will help providers to understand the various funding support that are available to parents to support with childcare costs and inclusion.  The talks will be followed by a Question and Answer session. Guest speakers from DWP and Children’s Services will be delivering the sessions.

Funding Support: Lee Tozer from DWP will discuss Working and Universal Credit support, especially childcare funding.

Inclusion in Childcare and Short Breaks: Jonathan Mitchell/ Patricia Mander will discuss the importance of community inclusion in childcare, what is childcare and what is a short break? It will also cover how Devon County Council and childcare providers can together to create inclusive provision.

The sessions will be delivered by Microsoft Teams. There is no need to book just click on the Teams link to join.

Following the success of the provider briefings in the summer term for the wraparound childcare funding, we are running more sessions in the Autumn Term. The session will enable you to learn more about the wraparound programme in Devon.

All schools, private, voluntary or independent settings are invited to attend.

Wraparound sustainability funding

There are some existing childcare providers offering the full wraparound provision, 8am – 6pm but struggling to be viable. We have made an allowance for small one-off grants of £2,000 to support the promotion and development of the childcare.

Before applications can be accepted a quality and financial health check will need to be completed, by your local Early Years and Childcare Advisor.
