Summary of Matter or Issue Requiring Decision:

Responding to DEFRA consultations

Decision Taken:

Consultation responses were sent for all three consultations:

  • Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging
  • Introducing a Deposit Return Scheme in England, Wales & Northern Ireland
  • Consistency in Household and Business Waste Recycling in England
Summary of Reason(s) for Decision Taken:

The consultations outlined proposals to change how waste would be managed in the UK and in particular how producers would become responsible for meeting the costs of managing the packaging that they produce.

In addition, changes were proposed to introduce statutory weekly food waste collections, a core set of materials to be collected at the kerbside and free garden waste collections.

It was important that the County Council responded on how the proposals would impact on how household waste would be managed in the future. The responses are available below:
