What is the standpoint about vaccination of children in care?
As a local authority we would follow national guidance around vaccination for children who are subject to Care Orders (where we share parental responsibility). In these circumstances we would make a best interest decision in conjunction with parents. Where children are old enough to give a very clear contrary view we would of course give them advice and education on this, but where they are competent to make a decision we would follow their wishes.
Where children are looked after under Section 20 (so we do not hold Parental Responsibility for them) this would remain a decision for the birth parent in discussion with us and the carers.
