1. The road St Marys Church Road Newton Abbott side TQ12, just before the august bank holiday the hedge row was cut back roughly 6 feet. Can I ask was this because of any outside influence or complaints from people or was it due to be done?
We carried out hedge cutting to the SW side of St Marychurch Road alongside Ben Steadman’s Wood on 2nd September 2024. This was at the request of Teignbridge District Council who wanted to undertake some improvements to the pedestrian accesses to the woods. They had asked if we could cut back the vegetation around the pedestrian accesses and we agreed. We decided to use the opportunity to cut back the length of the Devon owned hedge to improve visibility and remove any overgrowth.
2. What is the maintenance plan for cutting the hedges on that part of the road?
The hedge does not form part of any programme of cutting. We only carry out cutting works reactively where any overgrowth would meet our intervention criteria or as part of a wider scheme as in the case above.
3. Prior to august 2024 when was the last hedge cut?
We do not hold this information as we do not have a record of when the hedge was last cut prior to August 2024.
