We do not hold cumulative data for either a financial or academic year, but we can take data from a snapshot which was taken at a particular time. Contracts are set up for a certain number of days per academic year, so to get annual figures we assume that the contract will operate for the maximum amount of days. In reality that might not be the case, and if a snapshot was taken on a different day the figures could be different. Therefore the figures provided are estimated totals for the academic year, rather than the financial year, and are for vehicle journeys rather than passenger journeys. Temporary contracts are not included in the data. So, for example, if on a particular day the data shows that we have 10 vehicles operating to out of County establishments, and these are all set up to operate on 190 days in the academic year, we would estimate that there will be a total of 1,900 out of County vehicle journeys in that academic year.

Routes where petrol allowances are paid to parents/carers to provide transport are included, public transport routes on which Devon County Council purchases scholar passes are not included. ‘Taxi Services’ are not included as a separate category because SEN and Mainstream transport includes taxi contracts.
