This information is not always recorded therefore we are unable to provide complete information. The above numbers include all reasons for children come off of a school roll including for house moves etc. It also includes where children come to the LA as part of an exchange programme before returning to their own country to conclude their education.Pupils who move out of county are removed from our Children Missing Education (CME) lists when another Local Authority (LA) acknowledges that the child is living in their LA and they will take on responsibility. Those pupils will not necessarily be on a school roll.

Devon County Council consider a child moving schools as CME until confirmation they are on another school’s roll is received whether in our county area or that of another local authority. The majority of referrals relate to school changes due to house moves where there may be a short delay in a child leaving one school to move and then start at another. Pupils who move out of county are removed from our Children Missing Education (CME) lists when another Local Authority (LA) acknowledges that the child is living in their LA and they will take on responsibility. Those pupils will not necessarily be on a school roll.
