(a) general practice Currently, Devon County Council does not monitor this as part of the contract arrangement with GPs
(b) sexual and reproductive health services (i) sexual health appointments: These contracts have always included the indicator for 48hr access to the service. Due to the current provision of a mainly open access sit and wait service, this indicator has been recently removed from the reporting schedule. There is a system for dealing with sexual health (or contraception) emergencies.

General Practice Prior to 1 April 2019 patient complaints would be escalated to NHS England. Following the new commissioning arrangements implemented from 1 April 2019, complaints will be escalated to NHS Devon CCG. There is a requirement in the GP contract for practices to notify commissioners of any significant events relating to the provision of commissioned contraceptive services.
Sexual and reproductive health services Patient complaints relating to sexual and reproductive contraception services will be monitored and escalated through the appropriate governance pathways in either of the two acute trusts commissioned to provide services to Devon residents: Northern Devon Healthcare Trust or University Hospitals Plymouth. Significant events are reported by exception through contract meetings.

All sexual and reproductive health services commissioned by Devon County Council may be accessed by young people under 25, and people of all ages. The only stand-alone service directed at young people between 13-24, is the emergency contraception and chlamydia screening service offered in community pharmacies.

Currently, the only digitally accessed service is for Chlamydia screening and this provides:

  • Online access to Chlamydia screening kits for young people aged 16-24
  • Chlamydia screening kits to community pharmacies and other targeted sites for young people under 25.
