Proposed Meter Parking in Tavistock

With regards to the proposed parking meter scheme in Tavistock, can you please tell me:

1. Which company the council plan to give the parking meter scheme contract to?

There is no intention for a third party to manage any new parking scheme in Devon.

2. What the initial start up cost would be to the council. Which budget would this come from?

There is no intention for a third party to manage any new parking scheme in Devon.

However, a budget of £250,000 has been allocated for the delivery of pay & display schemes in key communities as agreed (along with associated Policy) in Cabinet on the 9th November 2022. This information can be found in Appendix F at the following link County Road Highway Maintenance Capital Budget Programme 2023 24.

3. What the yearly cost would be to the council for the third party to run this scheme. What budget would this come from?

Please see the answer to question 1.

4. How will on-street parking space turnover in Tavistock town centre be improved if drivers are able to park for two hours rather than one?

Devon County Council (DCC) does not hold this information.

It should be noted that there has been significant opposition to the plans which would have seen charges being imposed after an initial free parking period in Braunton, Crediton, Dartmouth, Honiton, Okehampton, Salcombe, Sidmouth and Tavistock.

DCC’s cabinet is due to discuss a report on the proposals at a meeting on Wednesday 13th March 2024 DCC Cabinet Meeting which recommends withdrawing them.
