2 What is the priority list of reparations to the known issues currently on roads in East Devon?

3 When will the above work commence and what is the scheduled timeline for completion?

In response to questions 2 and 3, Devon County Council operates a regime of highway safety inspection in order to identify defects that may represent a hazard to users of the network. Our Highway Safety Policy sets out our approach in terms of frequency and method of inspection and the risk-based protocol we use to determine appropriate responses to safety defects.

At present, there are approximately 800 safety defects with our term maintenance contractor for repair, in the East of Devon – this includes Exmouth and Exeter as part of the larger ‘operational’ area/division. These defects will all vary in response times, ranging from 2 hours through to 90 days, depending on their severity, and also vary in their required completion dates, depending on when they were identified as safety inspections occur year-round, across the network.

4 What is the shortfall in funding, if any, that the Council predicts for the next three years to enable it to properly repair and maintain the County’s roads?

We do not hold this information. The funding allocations for the next 3 years have not yet been announced.

5 How much has the Council set aside for projected future claims by motorists related to damage caused through poorly maintained roads in the County over the next three years?

We do not hold this information. Funds are set aside for all classes insurance claims but this is not broken down into types of claims.
