Maintenance of Gullies on Residential Roads

Can I please request the following information:

1. Do you have a schedule for clearing gullies on residential roads and if so, the frequency with which this work is carried out.

Our schedule for clearing gullies is that we empty urban gullies with sumps at least once every three years. We empty rural gullies with sumps at least once a year and we flush gullies without sumps once a year. We also respond to reports of blocked drains that are causing standing water.

2. Is your maintenance work for clearing gullies carried by a contractor or your own staff?

It is carried out but a Term Maintenance Contractor.

3. What type of equipment is used? E.g. do you own a gully sucker? Or do your contractors use a gully sucker?

The Term Maintenance Contractor generally uses a gully sucker. Devon County Council does not own a gully sucker.

4. Have you used new technology for your gully clearing? If so, please give details, specifically if you have you used In Touch Ltd SmartWater sensors.

No.
