Kenton culverts

Request for Information – Item 1:
For the Slittercombe Lane culvert, Kenton, at the location shown on Figure 1 please can the following information be provided:
1A: A record of culvert inspections for the past 10 years

No records are held of structural inspections of the original small stone arch culvert (less than 1m) . The County Council does not have a policy for inspection of small culverts that are not recorded as a Highway Structure. Works are commissioned on a reactive basis when required. An inspection of the culvert was carried out on the 25 November 2021 as part of a walk through of this part of the stream with regard to blockages. No action was deemed necessary.
A General Inspection for the new structure 05443 Slittercombe, constructed following collapse of the stone arch culvert early in 2024, will not take place until 2026 at the earliest.

1B: A record of culvert maintenance activities (for example, de-silting, repair of headwall etc.) for the past 10 years.

No records are held of work on the original culvert.
The new structure has received no repairs or maintenance activities.

1C: Can the culvert safely convey the 1 in 100 year flood event?

Unknown at this time. A detailed catchment model for Kenton is currently underway and will include assessment of the recently replaced culvert.

This is for 03893 Kenton Culvert held electronically with all comments and observations. The coding used follows the CSS Bridge Inspection Reporting Tables. Notes are included to aid interpretation.

The Council cannot disclose personal information if releasing it would contravene any of the provisions in the Data Protection Act 2018. In this instance release of this information would contravene the first data protection principle and therefore the information is withheld

Yes, the initial assessment carried out suggests it can convey the 100 year flow. A more detailed catchment model for Kenton is currently underway.
