Glyphosate-based herbicides used on Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs)

I would like to know which glyphosate-based herbicides are currently used by or on behalf of the council on Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) that are owned by, managed by, or under the control of the council.

Please can you provide the data for the most recent 12-month period for which the information is available.

Please can you also specify the amount and brand of each glyphosate-based herbicide in question, as well as the size of the area over which they are used.

Public Rights of Way and Country Parks

For Stover Country Park (and the designated SSSI)

Round Up Pro Biactive is used around the water courses and Rosate 360 is used within the woodlands and heath.

Both products are used for spot spraying or stump treatment to control invasive species such as rhododendron, bracken and birch in the heath (heath extends to approx. 10ha – not all the area needs to be treated every year), willow and alder in the marsh (1.4ha – not all this area is treated every year), and rhododendron and bracken in the woodlands (approx. 36ha – small parts of this area are treated yearly).

A total of approx. 2.5 litres of Glyphosate have been used by the Ranger Team in the past 12 months.

On top of this, contractors spot spray the Crassula in the marsh with Roundup Pro Biactive yearly using approx. ΒΌ of a litre. Not all the 1.4ha of marsh needs to be treated.

Therefore, with the Ranger Team and contractors combined, around 2.75 litres of Glyphosate is used yearly within this SSSI.
