Exmouth seafront parking

The sign at certain areas of Exmouth seafront advises that motor caravans are not allowed to park there but this sign should not apply to the likes of VW vans or similar sized vehicles.

In this request please provide
1. details of the dimensions of the vehicles which it has been decided are not allowed to park there

The definitions of a motor caravan is contained in our  County Wide Traffic Order where it is stated that:

a motor caravan means a motor vehicle which is constructed or adapted for the carriage of passengers and their

effects and which contains, as permanently installed equipment, the facilities which are reasonably necessary for

enabling the vehicle to provide mobile living accommodation for its users

2. who took this decision

This definition has been decided through the normal democratic process which includes public consultation.

3. why are VW vans included in the motorcaravan category since these vans are the same size as a normal car

The size of vehicle is not the overriding consideration, any vehicle that is “constructed or adapted for the carriage of passengers and their effects and which contains, as permanently installed equipment, the facilities which are reasonably necessary for enabling the vehicle to provide mobile living accommodation for its users” is not permitted to park during hours of prohibition
